PS4 on sale in South Africa and 15 other nations

PlayStation 4 has gone on sale in another 16 countries today, including South Africa.

Consumers in the Czech Republic, Greece, Slovakia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and South Africa can all pick Sony’s latest games console.

PS4 has also been released today in Bolivia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.

This now brings the total number of countries in which PS4 is available to 48. The system launched in North America on November 15th and arrived two weeks later in the UK and mainland Europe on November 29th.

The system has so far surpassed the two million unit milestone and has already become the fastest-selling console in UK history – besting the title held by its sister console, the PSP.

By contrast, Microsoft’s Xbox One is currently available in 13 countries including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the UK, USA and New Zealand.

Xbox One went on sale on November 22nd in the US, and Microsoft now claims its console has outsold the PS4 in that territory.

Both systems are yet to launch in Japan, which has traditionally been viewed as a key market for new gaming hardware. PS4 and Xbox One will go on sale there in early 2014.

Microsoft’s plans to bring its next-gen system to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland “as soon as possible” in 2014.
