Quantum Break forces eyepatch onto pirates and those not logged into Windows Store

Remedy has repeated its comedy anti-piracy measure from Alan Wake in recent PC release Quantum Break.

Should the game decide that you’re a pirate, lead character Jack Joyce suddenly dons a very fetching eyepatch, complete with a skull and crossbones motif. Which isn’t that severe a punishment, but will likely over time annoy as much as it amuses.

There is a slight problem, however. The same measures are forced upon those who have the audacity to play the game while not logged in to the Windows Store. Seeing as the game is only available digitally (and only via Windows 10), this shouldn’t prove a huge problem, but does that mean that anyone forced offline for whatever reason will have to endure the visual addition.

Note that the game has not yet been pirated. It uses Denuvo, too, which is on a great run of success, so there’s every chance it could remain piracy-free for a long time to come.

The game’s FAQ offers the following explanation for the eyepatch: DRM might’ve accidentally triggered. Make sure you’ve logged into your Microsoft account before starting the game (thanks NeoGAF!).”

Also in the FAQ is a response to a question about why the game is only available to Windows 10 users: The publisher decides where and on what platform to distribute the game.” A similar response is offered to those questioning the price of the game.
