Former God of War director Stig Asmussen at the helm

Respawn developing new Star Wars title

And a happy May 4th to you, Respawn!

The Titanfall developer has revealed that it is working on a new third-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe. The game will be published by EA and is one of several titles the publisher has in the works, Polygon reports.

Development will be overseen by Stig Asmussen, best known as the director on Sony’s God of War series. In the teaser on Respawn’s website, Asmussen said a “small, but incredibly talented team” are behind the project.

“The entire company erupted in cheers when it was announced that this would be our next endeavor,” he wrote.

“But it’s not all fun and games — we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics. Moving forward, we couldn’t ask for a better universe in which to continue this journey.”

Nothing else is known about Respawn’s Star Wars title, so it’s unclear whether it will be based on the classic films, The Force Awakens, or maybe even this year’s upcoming spin-off Rogue One.

Other EA studios known to be working on Star Wars games include Visceral Games, DICE, BioWare, Motive and Capital Games. EA has promised more details on the titles developed by Motive, led by Jade Raymond, and Visceral, penned by Amy Hennig, soon.
