Ron Gilbert: ‘Disney, please sell me the Monkey Island IP’

The creator of Monkey Island Ron Gilbert has publicly asked Disney for the rights to some of his gaming IP.

Taking to Twitter (below), Gilbert specifically is after the Monkey Island and Maniac Mansionproperties – franchises that he created during his time at LucasArts. He even goes as far as to say that he would pay ‘real actual money’ for the IP.

Both of these series are now owned by Disney following the media giant’s acquisition of LucasArts in 2012 and subsequent – effective – closure of the studio in 2013.

This follows Disney apparently pulling out of console games altogether with the axing of its Infinity toys-to-life range. The firm also closed Avalanche Software.

Instead, the firm is moving to a full licensing model, similar to the deal it has with EA to produce Star Wars console games.
