SCE UK boss Fergal Gara has resigned

Fergal Gara, the VP and MD of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, has resigned.

Sony says he has left to pursue a new professional venture”. SCEE’s GM of Nordics, East & South East Europe Warwick Light will replace him, with his tenure to start on August 10th.

Gara will remain at Sony until then to aid the transition.

Gara became PlayStation’s UK boss in September 2011, replacing Ray Maguire. He was already familiar with video games following his time at Asda where he was in charge of entertainment.

Fergal is an extremely talented leader, and in his four years managing the UK business has significantly strengthened the brand and made countless contributions to our success,” president and CEO Jim Ryan said.

He has also served as a key member of the European Executive team, helping to steer PlayStation to even greater heights. We are extremely grateful for his dedication and for the legacy that he leaves.

I have complete confidence that Warwick is the right person to replace Fergal in the UK role, and his 20 years of service to Sony has been marked by outstanding performance.”

Gara added: "I have had a fantastic time leading the PlayStation business in the UK and Ireland over the past four years. I am very grateful for having had this opportunity and I want to thank my team who have been amazing and, of course, Jim, for his support along with the wider PlayStation family who have helped make this period as successful as it has been.

"I wish Warwick every success as he takes on the UK and Ireland business at this exciting stage."

Throughout his time at Sony Gara has guided PS4 to a market leading position in the UK.
