Both Sony and Nintendo are pushing forward with separate attempts to explore games development and content designed specifically for the Asian market.
According to a new report by Nikkei (translated by Forbes), the two will do this via local development talent.
Nintendo has started working with a South Korean games developer to make games including simulation titles that use the DS’ touch screen.
20 games will be released via the collaboration within the year
1.4m DS units have been sold in Korea while 2.6m games have been sold. In Taiwan Nintendo will also sell the DS via mobile phone stores.
Sony, meanwhile, is also targeting Taiwan, by working with the authorities to train game creators on how to make PS3 games, in a scheme that starts in September.
Sony will train the aspiring developers at local colleges, with the goal being to distribute their creations via the PlayStation Network.
The format-holderw will also grow its operations in South Korea, presumably to drive up adoption and distribution of the PS3.
