Mike Fischer leaves game publisher for Amazon's digital music and video in Japan

Square Enix America CEO leaves company

Mike Fischer, CEO of Square Enix America, has left the company to become vice president of Amazon’s Japanese digital music and video division.

The news, outed by Polygon, comes amid rumors that Square Enix is trying to scale back or entirely scrap its mobile gaming efforts in North America.

Fischer, who has previously worked at Namco, Sega and Microsoft, says he left the company on good terms.

Square Enix Europe CEO Phil Rogers will act as president and CEO of the company’s American branch, heading up the business both in the U.S. and Europe.

While many of Square Enix’s games topped the charts this year, sales were far below expectations and the company revealed staggering losses during the last fiscal quarter.
