Star Citizen raises $9m in crowdfunding

Cloud Imperium’s Star Citizen has surpassed $9m in crowdfunding.

The game raised $2.1m during its 2012 Kickstarter campaign, and the Roberts Space Industries site has brought in the remaining $6.9m.

The game has been in development for over a year, and aims to combine elements of Roberts’s previous games Wing Commander and Freelancer. Oculus Rift virtual reality headset support is planned for the game as well.

The latest milestone comes just a week after the announcement that Chris Robert’s studio had opened a new Santa Monica office.
