SteamDevDays: TV, Music, Movies for SteamOS

Valve plans to add TV, Music, and Movies services to SteamOS before its in-house Linux distribution is released to consumers.

The Steam Dev Days conference is in full swing in Seattle and, while the press hasn’t been invited to the conference, game developers on Twitter have reported that Valve’s Anna Sweet took the stage to confirm the company was serious about media streaming on Steam Machines.

This isn’t the first time Valve has spoken about its intentions to make sure its new living-room PCs had the same wider entertainment appeal as a modern console, but repeating it to developers behind closed doors is as close to a promise as it gets.

This wasn’t the only news to come out of the conference today: Valve revealed that it’s dropping the touch-screen from its Steam Controller, plans to discontinue its Greenlight community voting system, and that Alienware is releasing its Steam Machine in September.
