The Game Awards watched by 2.3m people

Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards drew in a crowd of no less than 2.3 million people.

Speaking to Polygon, Keighley said that the success of this year’s show means that the likelihood of them returning next year is high. The 2015 Game Awards brought in 15 per cent more viewers than last year’s event, which saw 2m viewers turning in.

The second Game Awards took place last weekend, and saw several pretty sizeable announcments including a Batman Telltale game, a date for The Walking Dead: Michonne, Rock Band VR, Rocket League coming to Xbox One, a Psychonauts 2 crowdfunding effort and new footage of Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn.

This is the same Game Awards that Konami blocked Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima from attending to collect the Best Action/Adventure Game prize for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

"With the growth this year and all the sponsor support, I feel pretty confident we will be back next December for The Game Awards 2016," Keighley said.

"Next year will be about adding other elements around the show. One thing I wanted to do this year was a big eSports tournament the day of the show, but we just didn’t have enough bandwidth to get it done."
