Warner Bros has announced that there will also be a smartphone version of upcoming fighter Mortal Kombat X.
Mortal Kombat X: Mobile is due out in April, although it’s not clear if it will arrive on April 14th alongside the console and PC release.
It’s a very different beast to the main game, however, adopting the free-to-play card battler approach. It will stay faithful to the source material, though, complete with fatalities and a roster of recognisable faces.
Signing up for a WB Play account will allow players of either the main game or the phone game to unlock content in the other.
NetherRealm Studios has created a Mortal Kombat X mobile experience that allows more players than ever before to play this over-the-top fighting game through their ever-present smartphones, tablets or other devices,” NetherRealm’s creative director Ed Boon said.
What’s more, we’ve expanded the unique cross-connectivity feature that links the mobile and console versions of Mortal Kombat X, delivering unique rewards to all players for simply playing the mobile game.”
