THQ boss Brian Farrell says the publisher must monetise the pre-owned games market to offset exorbitant development costs.
In an interview with MCV , he Farrell said THQ is "making these huge investments in project developments, sometimes in licences and marketing, and we need to make sure we capture that value chain."
THQ saw it that its UFC 2010 game, if purchased second-hand, would charge an additional fee to take players online.
In the interview with MCV, he said the money generated from this activity proves how popular used games are.
