Indie publisher takes on former Gameloft exec as chief product officer

Tilting Point hires Gameloft’s Samir El Agili

Tilting Point has hired Samir El Agili to a new created role that will help expand the indie publisher’s portfolio.

El Agili takes up the position of chief product officer, and will be responsible for overseeing Tilting Point’s growing range of published games, as well as working with developers to make sure they’re well supported.

He leaves his previous role at Gameloft as VP of production for the US and Latin America. During his tenure, he founded four new studios, managed six and oversaw the development of mobile hits such as Spider-Man Unlimited, Ice Age Village and The Oregon Trail: American Settler.

“The mobile game industry has changed tremendously in the ten years I’ve spent at Gameloft,” he said in a post on Tilting Point’s website. “What started as a gold rush for independent developers has changed into an imbalanced market, heavily favouring a few entrenched companies. These days, independent developers need more than a great game to hit the charts. They need specialised resources and technology to compete against very well-equipped rivals.”

“I came to Tilting Point because they have the team, the toolset, and the vision to solve this growing problem in our industry. It’s a very scalable company with an amazing lineup of games coming down the pipeline. I’m inspired to be part of this team of experts in their respective fields, aligned in their mission to champion independent game development.”

Tilting Point hopes to grow its internal staff by more than half in 2015 as it expands its publishing business.
