Ubisoft bringing Tetris Ultimate to 3DS with exclusive content

Ubisoft has announced Tetris Ultimate is coming to Nintendo hardware after all, just not its Wii U console.

The publisherinitially revealedthe updated classic for PC, PS4 and Xbox One (and later for PS Vita), but notably left out Nintendo platforms.

That omission didn’t sit well to many Nintendo fans, which isn’t a surprise considering the popularity of the original Tetris on Nintendo’s NES console. Ubisoft has made amends though – as not only will 3DS be a launch platform, the handheld will receive exclusive content in the form of multiple single-player challenge modes as well.

The 3DS offering includes a "Master" mode inspired by Arika’s Tetris, along with a "Rotation Lock" mode that freezes falling pieces in random positions, an "Escalation" mode that forces players to clear more lines as the difficulty level increases, and an "Invisible" mode that turns blocks invisible as they approach the bottom of the screen.

The 3DS version will arrive alongside the PS4 and Xbox One releases later this summer, while digital releases for PC and PS Vita are planned for the fall.
