LittleBigPlanet 2 has topped the All Formats Top 40 charts this week following its release on Friday 21st January.
The PS3 exclusive outperformed its predecessor which only managed to reach No.4 when it was released in the week ending November 8th, 2008. It then dropped to No.19 the following week – although being released in Q4 meant it would have had more new releases to compete with.
Mass Effect 2 re-enters the Top 40 this week following its release on PS3 – the shooter takes No.7. Meanwhile, DC Universe Online has dropped out of the Top Ten following its release last week. Sony’s superhero MMO now sits at No.22.
Just Dance 2, FIFA 11 and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood continue to hold strong in the Top Ten, at No.3, No.4 and No.5 respectively.
Wii Party climbed nine positions from No.25 to No.16, while the remainder of the All Formats GfK Chart-Track Top 40 remains similar to last week.
Square Enix’s new release Mindjack failed to enter the Top 40 this week.
UPDATE: Chart-Track reveals that despite its improved charts performance, LittleBigPlanet 2 actually sold 95 copies fewer than the first game in its opening weekend.
