UK CHARTS: MW2 locks down No.1

Despite seeing an 86 per cent week-on-week decline in sales, Activision’s might Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has succeeded in fending off the advancing forces of both Nintendo and Ubisoft to maintain its spot at the top of the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 this week.

The full All Formats chart is available to in MCV’s RETAIL BIZ digital booklet – alongside all single-format charts, the latest Metacritic ratings and MCV’s weekly UK price check. You can read RETAIL BIZ online or download it here.

Assassin’s Creed II managed to sneak into second position. The original game managed to debut at number one back in 2007, but the sequel betters its sales performance by 12 per cent.

Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros Wii has to settle for third place in the end, though the long-tail of most Nintendo titles means that the platform holder is unlikely to be too concerned.

Another new entry in the Top Ten is Valve and EA’s online multiplayer romp Left 4 Dead 2, which enters the listings at number seven.

Outside the Top Ten there are four new entries – Codemasters F1 2009 (11th), LucasArts’ LEGO Indiana Jones 2 (16th), EA’s The Sims 3: World Adventures and Sony’s LittleBigPlanet (38th).

Here’s the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top Ten in full (for the week ending November 21st):

2. Assassin’s Creed II (Ubisoft)
3. New Super Mario Bros WII (Nitnendo)
