UPDATE: Growing reports of PS4 data corruption error

A thread on the PlayStation forum regarding a specific data corruption error is pointing towards a problem for Sony’s machine.

Currently standing at 36 pages long, the thread focuses on the CE-34878-0 error. The sisue doesn’t seem specific to any particular title and has manifested for players of various games including FIFA 14, NBA 2K14, Killzone, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Assassin’s Creed IV.

It begins when a user attempts to access an affected save file. Some people have reported that deleting the offending file resolves the issue while others are saying this hasn’t helped them.

Some have even had to source a replacement console.

If there is an issue to be addressed the hope that it is software related and can be easily patched out. The worst case scenario would be an HDD problem that cannot simply be patched, but until an official statement is made there seems little reason to think this is a widespread concern.

UPDATE:CVG has discovered that the CE-34878-0 error appears after any PS4 game crashes, regardless of why, meaning that the sequence may not represent a systematic problem”.

A Sony spokesperson added that the platform holder is aware of the [reported] cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate".
