US: Microsoft hails 600 per cent 360 Arcade sales hike

Microsoft is understandably delighted by its

August sales victory over Sony’s PS3

, and has highlighted the massive surge in Xbox 360 hardware sales in early September in its response to NPD’s August US sales figures.

Having been crowned the victor in its battle of Sony in August, Microsoft immediately sought to hammer home the fact that since it cut the price of its Xbox 360 range on September 3rd sales have climbed over 100 per cent, with sales of the low-end Arcade SKU increasing six fold.

As for August, Microsoft sold 195,000 Xbox units throughout the month, bringing lifetime US sales to a shade under 11 million. And despite Sony’s championing of its individual software attach rate ratios, Microsoft was keen to point out the trend-buckingly high attach rate enjoyed by its machine – it currently stands at eight games per console.

Its figures also highlight the fact that Xbox 360 claimed 45 per cent of all third party software sales throughout August.
