New competitor in space to start broadcasting eSports events in 4k at 60fps this Autumn

Wargaming backs game streaming platform Hitbox in $4m funding round

Video game live-streaming platform Hitbox.TV has raised $4m in funding.

The funds will go toward expanding the company’s North American operations and global reach, as well as develop its existing tech. One of its aims is to begin broadcasting eSports events in 4K at 60fps during the Autumn.

Backers of the firm include World of Tanks publisher Wargaming, CV firm Speedinvest, North Base Media and a number of angel investors. As part of the deal, Wargaming’s chief strategy officer Sean Lee will join Hitbox’s board of directors.

Total funding in the company has now reached $5m after the company raised $1m from angel investors last year.

“While many of our peers thought there was no room for a new competitor next to the industry giants in this space, we were right to focus on technological innovation and foster a friendly and dynamic community of gamers, which has helped us to grow to more than six million dedicated fans in less than two years,” said Hitbox CEO Martin Klimscha.
