Report: The Division film staring Jake Gyllenhaal on the way

An Assassin’s Creed film is launching at the end of this year, but it seems another Ubisoft property is getting the silver screen treatment.

Variety reports that The Division is coming to cinemas, with Donnie Darko lead Jake Gyllenhaal said to be taking the lead the title.

This won’t be the first time that Gyllenhaal has starred in a film based on an Ubisoft games IP. In 2010 he played the titular Prince in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Variety also says Gyllenhaal is attached to the project as a producer, though a writer is still being sought to write the screen play.

The Division launched in March 2016 and resulted in publisher Ubisoft’s biggest Day One sales ever. Days after launch, it was announced that the online shooter was the best-ever selling Q1 title.

That was before Ubisoft announced that The Division was the fastest selling new IP in history, with $330m in sales in just five days, overtaking Activision’s Destiny.

Ubisoft also had its Assassin’s Creed film coming out at the end of this year.
