Respawn: Titanfall up to 8m unique users, wishes game had been on Steam

The exact sales of Titanfall, like many recent triple-A releases, remain unknown, but developer Respawn has said that the shooter is approaching 8m unique users.

However, studio boss Vince Zampella has admitted that he would have liked the PC version to be released on Steam and not just as an exclusive on EA’s Origin platform.

For us, as an early launch on a limited platform we’re pretty happy,” he told Game Informer. I think the DLC has been pretty successful especially the last one – Frontier’s Edge – has been very well received.”

At some point you look at it and you say is it even worth now this much later the effort to put it on Steam, when it would be a lot of work and kind of bifurcate the community? We would have loved for it to be on Steam from day one, but at some point it just doesn’t make sense anymore and you start looking to the future and I think we should not make that same decision again.”

Zampella also went on to state that the deal that saw Titanfall kept off PlayStation platforms – which was agreed upon without the studio’s knowledge and described by EA as a tactical opportunity” – only covered the first game.

He added that it hasn’t yet announced whether or not EA will publish the second title. The publisher said last year that it was in negotiations regarding a potential sequel, with rumours earlier this year suggesting that an agreement had been reached.
