Asda begins console trade-ins

Supermarket chain Asda has gone live with a new Tech Trade-In offer that allows customers to hand over a range of their consumer tech – including games consoles – in exchange for cash directly into your account.

Goods that Asda accept include Xbox 360s, PS3s, numerous versions of the DS and Wii consoles. It also pays for mobile phones, laptops, MP3 players, sat navs and tablet PCs.

Here at Asda Tech Trade-In we’ve got loads of love to give your old mobile or gadget. Mostly when you sell an old phone, the handset is perfect,” the chain stated.

Once all the data on them has been wiped after using ourfree data erase tool, we can just send them off to other parts of the world like China, Africa, Pakistan and India. These are places where mobiles are very often the only form of communication as there are very few landlines. So your old phone finds a new loving owner and you get money for an old mobile phone you didn’t want.

When we receive your gadget, we make sure it is working by doing a full test on it. We hope to make someone’s day by enabling them to use your old gadget because in many of these countries, gadgets that we use here in the UK are unaffordable.”

Trade-ins can be booked on the internet, with customers then having to post them off to Asda. The service is not yet available in-store, though freepost envelopes can be collected from branches.

Asda is also encouraging customers to send off damaged gadgets, which it will then access and offer a trade-in value for.
