Duncan Cross leaves Asda games team

Supermarket chain Asda has confirmed that after four years as its buying manager for music and games, new dad Duncan Cross is to take up a new position as head of the chain’s baby category.

Cross will remain in his current post until June 7th, though it is hoped that his successor will be announced in the next seven days.

Under Duncan’s leadership, we have jointly enjoyed a fantastic period of growth,” music, video and games category director Fergal Gara said in a statement released to trade partners.

It is easy to forget the incredible achievements delivered over this period. We have more than doubled both sales and market share for Asda over this period. We have undertaken two significant supply chain moves and we have dramatically improved our in-store environment for video games.

Most importantly, Duncan has built a very strong team across buying, merchandise planning, supply and retail marketing. This team is a real testament to Duncan’s time in charge and leaves us in a great position to continue the success story well into the future.

Our victory at the 2010 MCV Awards as Supermarket Retailer Of The Year was a very proud moment for us and is timely recognition of the team’s achievements under Duncan’s leadership.”

The news comes on the same day that Asda confessed to a disagreement with publisher Take Two that has resulted in new release Red Dead Redemption not being stocked in any of its UK stores.
