GAME announces a string of in-store events for Minecraft Month

Former digital darling Minecraft is expanding its High Street reach thanks to a host of events with retailer GAME.

The first event takes place today at its Falkirk store with around 140 more to follow between now and August 30th. The full list can be found below.

Specifics on what will be taking place are vague but the retailer did say that stores will hold a host of exciting activities including building challenges, timed building competitions and tournaments”.

Minecraft is hugely popular and we know how passionately gamers have embraced the game,” stores director Dave Howard said. Minecraft Month celebrates the nation’s love of the game and will bring the local gaming communities together for some amazing in-store events this summer.”

UPDATE: Here’s some extra information about what will be taking place.

"We’ve left it up to stores to decide exactly what they are planning to do, however the vast majority of them will be running a Timed Building Challenge. This consists of customers being invited to build something – ANYTHING – in a 15 minute time window. Entrants will then have a photo taken of their design, which will either be voted for in store or posted to social media such as Facebook and Twitter for people to vote for their favourite design of the event.

"I believe some stores may hold slightly ammended events (such as "who can build the best….." or tournaments such as "who can do xxxx in the quickest time" etc. but as I said the vast majority will be the timed building challenges!"

Here’s the full list of participating stores. Customers are advised to tweet them directly for more details:
