HMV and Orange form mobile games store

Entertainment giant HMV has teamed up with Orange to form a mobile download portal.

HMV Mobile Games will launch next week, and represents the retailer’s continued growth in the games market.

The service can be access from any network and on over 1,000 Java enabled handsets.

400 games will be made available through the site, included FIFA Manager, Call of Duty, Tetris and Pac-Man. Users can also read reviews and previews and download demos.

The site can be accessed by customers who text HMV to 87010. The user will be then sent a text message with a link to HMV mobile.

We’re delighted to be launching this new mobile offer to get them closer to games content in a way that’s relevant to them," said HMV’s head of games Tim Ellis.

"It also demonstrates the kind of added-value benefit that we can deliver to our customers by working in partnership with Orange.”

Stephen Harris, business development director at Orange UK added: Orange is proud to be introducing this new service in strategic partnership with HMV, which will enable both parties to deliver greater value, products and services to our customers. It will also allow us to increase our reach in mobile gaming and build on our success as the number one mobile gaming operator in the UK.

"Our partnership with HMV is a key part of our strategy to grow and evolve our business, while giving consumers even more convenient ways to play games on their mobile phone.”

Orange and HMV continue their partnership following last year’s announcement that Orange concessions would appear in 100 HMV stores.
