MCV AWARDS: Amazon beats supermarkets

Amazon defeated the supermarkets to be crowned best general retail at the MCV Awards last night.

The firm was the only online company in this new category.

The specialist retail prize was scooped by GAME, having missed out on winning any awards last year. Meanwhile, star store was awarded to HMV’s Oxford Street outlet for a second year in a row.

The indie award was thrown open to online retail this year, and popular etail outlet ShopTo took home the prize.

It all means that Play.com fails to win an MCV Award for the first time in six years.
