UK Software Sales Monitor: Market growth begins at £14.6m

The market leapt 62 per cent this week, spurred on by the release of Square Enix’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution which went straight to No.1. 14.6m was generated from game sales.

Unit sales rose 32 per cent to 652,155 games sold. It was a much-needed boost after the retail market value dropped to a ten-year low two weeks ago.

Deus Ex finally brought an end to Zumba Fitness’ 10-week reign at the top of the UK All Formats charts. But publisher 505 still had a good week, with Rugby World Cup 2011 debuting at No.3.

Next week, the market could grow even further with plenty of new releases, including Ubisoft’s Driver: San Francisco and Codemasters’ Bodycount.
