In a move akin to Budgens or Cost Cutter introducing such a range to its stores in the UK, American retail behemoth 7-Eleven has confirmed that it is to begin selling pre-owned video games in 50 per cent of its US outlets.
This represents a total of over 3,000 outlets. The new offer will be marketed with the tagline ‘Great Games Below $20′.
The move comes following a fresh partnership with Game Trading Technologies, a specialist in the acquisition and repackaging of second hand video games.
We partnered with GTT because of their experience and expertise as a third-party provider of video games and the terrific selection they’ll offer to our customers,” 7-Eleven category manager for gaming and electronics Michael Jester stated.
More than 60 per cent of US households now have at least one video game console, and consumers are searching for convenient ways to stretch their entertainment dollar in this challenging economy.”
Game Trading Technologies president and CEO Todd Hays added: What this means to consumers is that they will have many convenient locations, most open 24/7, to buy value-priced video games. The program is available to all 7-Eleven U.S. franchisees, and we hope to have most US stores on board by September.”
Last month MCV reported that Game Trading Technologies had received a cash injection of $3.9m to buy around 320k used games.
