Zynga board game lands retail exclusivity, offers digital content

Argos has been unveiled as the exclusive UK supplier of Zynga’s upcoming board game FarmVille Hungry Hungry Herd.

The product will release in October with an RRP of 19.99. It will also include a DLC code that grants players of the Facebook title a virtual currency boost.

The release is just one of several board game SKUs on the way following a deal between Zynga and Hasbro to bring the company’s digital properties to the UK’s toy aisles.

CityVille Monopoly will retail for 21.99 while Words With Friends is getting both a 19.99 SKU and a portable Words With Friends To Go SKU priced at 12.99. All will offer bonus digital DLC.

It’s interesting that in age of digital growth, digital brands are still looking for ways to get physical product onto the High Street.

And board games are a sound choice. The family board game experience is one that digital gaming can never fully replicate. It also takes the Zynga brands to markets that are perhaps not as familiar with the digital world as some other sectors.

Thanks, Toy News.
