RetroN 5 console delayed to December

Hyperkin has set an official release for its near-all-in-one old school RetroN 5 console, and it’s not in line with Amazon’s listing from last week.

The (currently unavailable) pre-order page that briefly appeared on Amazon listed the console’s release date as October 31st. Hyperkin has since confirmed the date was placeholder, and the company claims to have reached out to Amazon about the discrepancy.

The hardware is now officially due out on December 10th, a significant delay from the company’s original projection of a summer 2013 launch.

Hyperkin explains the extra time has been used to make several key modifications” to the model shown at E3. The hardware is now better ventilated, and can make use of the Sega Power Base Converter peripheral – allowing owners to play Master System cartridges on top of all the other options.

"RetroN 5 will be the most amazing classic game console." Hyperkin’s Executive Director Steven Mar said. "We thank everyone who has been patient and supportive of Hyperkin during development."
