The UK’s most powerful retailer Tesco is to cut an estimated 34 roles from its non-food department.
Marketing Magazine reports that difficult economic times” have been blamed, and in particular the poor performance of electronics and entertainment.
The retailer says it hopes to find alternative jobs for all those affected, with over half of them having already accepted a new position.
Tesco recently posted a 0.5 per cent drop in underlying sales in the UK – its first like-for-like decline since 1991.
"In these difficult economic times we have reviewed a number of office roles to ensure that we are working as efficiently as possible on the things that we know will make a difference for our customers,” a statement read.
"Following this review there will be a small number of redundancies, subject to consultation. We recognise the impact of this and where possible we will work with those affected to find an alternative role within the business."
