Sony prepping Michael Jackson game

A brand new Michael Jackson game seems very much on the cards after news that Sony has swooped to secure a seven-year deal for the rights to release video games based on the late King of Pop.

The Independent reports that the $200m deal gives Sony the rights to release ten new music albums, DVDs and video games up until 2017. It’s the biggest recording contract in the history of music.

Jackson’s untimely passing last June has certainly made him a profitable entity than he was during the traumatic years leading to his death. Since his heart attack over 31m Jackson albums have been sold and movie This Is It has made $260m at the global box office.

CVG quotes chairman of Sony’s Columbia Epic division Rob Stringer as saying following the deal that there may be theatre, there may be films and movies, there may be computer games.”

Sony has already released a Michael Jackson PS3 bundle including the This Is It DVD and a new game would simply be the latest in a long legacy of video games tie-ups for Jackson.
