Sony reveals PlayStation credit card for the US

Sony has announced a brand-new PlayStation credit card for the US that lets gamers earn points on their everyday purchases and PlayStation Store items.

Revealed in partnership with Capital One, the Visa card comes with a number of benefits, including a $50 PlayStation Store code after the first purchase, pre-sale tickets to select music and sporting events, and the ability to customise your card with multiple game-inspired designs for free. There’s currently no word whether the card will come to the UK as well, but it could signal a significant shift from physical to digital sales for Sony in the US.

Sony is also offering 50 per cent back as a statement credit off a 12-month PlayStation Plus membership once users spend $3,000 on any purchases within a year, and 10 per cent back as a statement credit off PlayStation Vue, PlayStation Music or PlayStation Now subscriptions.

Card holders can earn 5x points for using their card at the PlayStation Store, or on PlayStation and Sony purchases at authorised retailers, 3x points on mobile phone bills, and x1 points on all other every day purchases. To give you an idea of what those points translate into, Sony said 100 points is around $1 in Sony Rewards.

"Working with our colleagues over at Sony Rewards and Capital One, we are excited to present a new PlayStation Credit Card with rewards designed specifically with gamers like you in mind," said Kristin Ferrito, brands activations manger at PlayStation US, wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "Beginning today, we’re inviting all of our fans to start turning your everyday purchases into a number of amazing rewards and benefits."
