Sony’s Robert Fisser on PS4 India release

Sony announced a 13th December release date for the PlayStation 4 in the UAE, but is not ready to spill the beans on the India release just yet.

Speaking with MCV at the on-going GAMES 13 expo in Dubai, PlayStation’s regional head for the Middle East, India and Turkey, Robert Fisser said, "To be clear, we’ve only announced the date for the UAE, which is December 13. There are still a number of events coming up, where we’re looking forward to announcing the release dates for other markets."

Asked about the risk of imports flooding the India market from the UAE and South East Asia if the Indian release is delayed, Fisser said, "We understand that we’re behind other markets so we need to keep that window as small as possible".

On pricing for the PS4 in India, Fisser echoed the comments of PlayStation India head Atindriya Bose.

"The pricing of the console has many factors. There’s of course the production cost itself, there are local duties, and then there is the exchange rate. At moment, the exchange rate for the Indian Rupee is quite volatile. So we’re actually waiting till as late as possible before confirming the price. The more attractive we can price it, the better it is for everybody, but these are the realities we have to deal with".
