South Park: The Stick of Truth DLC hindered by fragmented development

South Park: The Stick of Truth developer Obsidian Entertainment is exploring the possibility of creating new content for the game, but it doesn’t appear the odds are in the studio’s favor.

In an interview with Polygon, Obsidian head Feargus Urquhart explained how development priorities changed for the team during the game’s publisher shakeup caused by the folding of THQ.

I don’t know what [the new content] could be. We had always talked about it, extending the story through DLC, it was just stuff on paper, but it never went beyond talking about it,” Urquhart said.

That was when THQ was involved. When it moved to Ubisoft, there was more pressure to get [the game] done. I think that became the priority, so we got it done.”

Urquhart adds that he believes Ubisoft is done” with the game, despite the potential for additional story-related content.

The game’s development endured through tough times even before the folding of THQ, as its original publisher Viacom backed out of the deal due to its attempt to sell Harmonix.
