Spike Lee is writing NBA 2K16’s single player story

NBA 2K16 is a sports sim, but unlike outings like FIFA and MLB, it has for a few years incorporated a story driven single player mode. And this mode is going to be written by acclaimed director Spike Lee.

It will even say featuring a Spike Lee joint” on the box. We’re not sure what this means. Hopefully you do.

The story in question is about the trials and tribulations of life on a big stage with the money, fame, temptations, family members, the press, fans, all that stuff" Lee told The Associated Press.

And it’s about a character called Frequency Vibrations. Yes, we know.

VP of sports development at developer Visual Concepts Jeff Thomas added: "It wasn’t a hard sell. Spike was really receptive when I first met with him. He actually said to us, ‘It’s about time I worked with 2K.’ He loves basketball, and this is a new frontier for him.

"We make an E-rated game. It’s an NBA licensed project and obviously the NBA cares a lot about their brand and makes sure we stick within those boundaries. Spike understood that from the get-go, but he didn’t take his foot off the gas because of that. He still brought the drama."

It’s not the first time that 2K has drawn on the celebrity world to promote its basketball series. Last year’s outing had a soundtrack curated by Pharrell Williams. Jay Z did the same for NBA 2K13.

We’re pretty certain it’s the first time that a character has been called Frequency Vibrations, however.
