Star Wars: Uprising is the first game sequel to Return of the Jedi, and it’s out this week

Before The Force Awakens hits cinema screens later this year, the Star Wars universe is about to expand thanks to a new mobile game.

Star Wars: Uprising is a title for iOS and Android due out this Thursday, September 10th, that continues the story left off at the end of 1983’s Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Believe it or not, given the sheer number of Star Wars books, games and spin-offs released in the three-plus decades since the film concluded the tale of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, but Uprising is only the second-ever official property (and the first-ever video game) to explore the post-Jedi universe, following novel Star Wars: Aftermath, which was released last week.

Uprising is set in the Anoat Sector, the home to Hoth and Cloud City, in which much of The Empire Strikes Back took place. Players will see the Star Wars universe after the death of the Emperor as a new baddie – Adelhard – comes into power.

The MMO role-playing title has been developed by Kabam, best known for its free-to-play efforts such as Marvel: Contest of Champions, Realm of the Mad God and Hero Force.

Like those games, Uprising is free-to-play, but the studio has insisted that no paywalls will be present, instead being monetised through ‘time and competition’.
