Starbound pre-orders bring in $1m for Chucklefish

Indie developer Chucklefish’s Starbound has brought in more than $1m in pre-order sales.

A blog post on Starbound’s official site reveals the milestone, which arrives just 16 days after the game was made available for purchase.

Chucklefish, led by former Terraria designer Finn "Tiy" Brice, opened pre-orders for the 2D sandbox game on April 13th. The studio put together a tier-based rewards system with stretch goals in the vein of a Kickstarter campaign, and the results turned out to be a major win for everyone involved.

"Words can’t even express how grateful and overwhelmed we are by all the support you’ve shown us," the post reads. "Not just over the past couple of weeks, but for the past year or so since Starbound was officially announced. You’re all amazing, and we’re going to continue to work our butts off to make Starbound an awesome game for you."

The Starbound pre-order page currently boasts $1,026,147 raised by 42,355 backers.
