Starbreeze and Behaviour Digital have joined forces with 505 Games to bring he PS4 and Xbox One versions of its asymmetrical multiplayer horror title Dead by Daylight to retail later this year.
Starbreeze will publish the game on digital platforms for PS4 and Xbox One, as per its announcement in January, but 505 Games will be taking on retail distribution duties for the physical console versions when it arrives in Q2 of this year.
It’s currently unknown how much the console versions will cost at retail, but Starbreeze said in a statement that pricing information would be released at a later date.
The retail agreement excludes Asia and the Nordic territories, but 505 Games will pay a minimum guarantee advance royalty that amounts to $2.5m.
Dead by Daylight originally released on PC in June 2016, and has so far sold 1.8m units on Steam. In this asymmetrical horror game, one player’s tasked with hunting four friends in a terrifying nightmare world. Players take on the role of both killer and survivor in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
505 Games were recently responsible for bringing underwater exploration game Abzu to retail after publishing it digitally at the end of last year, and it also published Psyonix’s Rocket League and Variable State’s Virginia. Just last week, its parent company Digital Bros also signed a deal to acquire Assetto Corsa studio Kunos Simulazioni for 3.7m.
In 2015, Digital Bros acquired a 2.67 per cent stake in Starbreeze, in a deal worth $5m. In January of that year, it also acquired the Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons IP from Starbreeze for $500,000, and it then went on to invest heavily in the development of Payday 2, which was developed by Starbreeze subsidiary Overkill Software. 505’s publishing rights for Payday were also extended by another ten years, so they won’t expire until 2032.
Also last year, Digital Bros invested in Italian indie studio, Ovosonico, the outfit responsible for Vita title Murasaki Baby.
