Starcraft II dated

The next instalment in one of Blizzard Entertainment’s most keenly loved franchises, Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, has finally been give a release date.

The game will be released worldwide in territories including Europe, the US, Australasia, Canada, Mexico, Russia and much of Asia on July 27th. A digital release will follow ‘shortly after’.

The game is a long-awaited sequel to the acclaimed 1998 original. In-game races such as the Protoss, Terrans and Zerg return, and the title promises a new level of online play using Blizzard’s PC network Battle.net.

We’ve been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe for many years, and we’re excited that the time for that is almost here,” Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime stated.

Thanks to our beta testers, we’re making great progress on the final stages of development, and we’ll be ready to welcome players all over the world to StarCraft II and the new Battle.net in just a few months.”
