Starcraft II player kicked from tournament for Twitter rape threat

A Ukrainian Starcraft II player has been disqualified from an eSports tournament for threatening to rape a female opponent on social media.

Gonna rape some girl soon #fragbitemasters,” Mihaylo Hayda tweeted ahead of his scheduled match against Swedish counterpart Madeleine Leander, according to Deadspin.

Leander later wrote: He is one of the best StarCraft 2 players in Europe. I was invited to play in the tournament Fragbite Masters. My first reaction was ‘but I’m not good enough’. It was however not the first time an underdog was invited to a tournament. It would be stupid to say no, I thought. I saw it as chance and said yes.

A few minutes into the first map the game was paused. I had no idea why but it was because of the tweet. The game went on and I lost 0-2. When the match was over I saw this. I don’t even know what to say. I was very surprised to say the least. This coming from a pro player is scary. The organizers did what they could. They asked Kas to apologize and talked about it after.

Now I’ll try to let go of this and focus on my next match.”

The event organisers later confirmed Hayda’s disqualification.

The Ukrainian Terran Mihaylo "Kas" Hayda has been disqualified from Fragbite Masters due to inappropriate behaviour in connection with out StarCraft II tournament,” Fragbite Masters boss Pontus Eskilsson said.

This was decided tonight after Hayda acted inappropriately in social media, where he wrote an offensive post, claimed to be a joke, towards his opponent. Fragbite Masters do not tolerate this kind of behaviour. We strive to bring out the best of e-sports, and the said Twitter-post showed a part we all want to destroy from our community.

"First of all, I have to say that this is terrible. We will never stand for this kind of behaviour, and therefore a disqualification is highly appropriate. We need to show the players that these kinds of toxic acts have consequences. We have learned that the opponent in question has been dealt criticism for our penalty towards Kas, but we can assure you, this decision was made completely by the Fragbite Masters staff."

Hayda subsequently apologised for his tweets.
