The Houston Rockets hire director of esports development

NBA team the Houston Rockets has hired Sebastian Park as director of eSports development.

Park was formerly the CEO of Team Archon, before leaving that position and being a consultant for the last few months. According to a report from Bloomberg, Park will assess how the Rockets and owner Les Alexander can join the eSports industry.

“Nothing is off the table,” said Park when speaking to Bloomberg. “We’re going to look at everything. What really drew me to the Rockets was their ability to say, ‘There are things we know, and things we don’t know. We know the eSports space is valuable, now let’s take time and really figure it out.’”

The Rockets will not be looking to rush in and make rash decisions. With Park at the helm they will assess the best options, weather that be buying an organisation like the 76ers, building its own teams like PSG or something else entirely such as running competitions.

“A lot of people look at eSports myopically, as something that needs to explode in the next week to make ends meet, and I was there, I ran a team in that manner,” continued Park. “The Rockets can approach this not from the perspective of a start-up, but as an organization that can make bets with the purpose of being a major player in this space.”
