The next Dota 2 major will be held in Boston

Dota 2’s next $3 million major tournament will take place in Boston, Massachusetts in early December.

PGL will be organising the event, which consists of a group stage that takes place on December 3rd and 4th and a main event that starts on December 7th and concludes on the 10th.

The main event will take place at the Wang Theatre, which holds just 3,500 people. This will make the Boston major the smallest yet, with many worrying that it will feel like a less important event as a result. The venue does however appear to be quite similar to Benaroya Hall which became the iconic location of The International 2 and 3.

The group stage will feature 16 of the best teams from across the world fighting it out for seeding in the bracket stage. Those with the best record in the groups will play those with the worst records.

In a change from previous majors the bracket will now be single elimination best of three matches until the grand final, which will be a best of five. Previously all majors featured a double elimination bracket, giving teams who lost in the upper bracket a chance to reach the final.

As ever anyone can qualify for the event, but first they will have to win one of the open qualifiers, which will take place between October 23rd and 26th. Then they will have to get through the regional qualifier, which will take place between October 27th and 30th.
