The War Z gets first gameplay trailer

The makers of upcoming DayZ contender The War Z have released a video of the game’s alpha gameplay footage.

The answer to the obvious question is yes, The War Z looks very much like current open-world zombie favourite DayZ. Although, thankfully, the inventory system looks a lot easier to use.

Developer Hammerpoint and publisher Arktos Entertainment will not be free to download on PC, but will not demand a regular subscription. Microtransactions will feature, although the studio promises that players won’t be able to pay for an in-game advantage.

Servers will be able to host up to 250 people.

The War Z is first and foremost a ‘sandbox’ survival game,” the creators say. We’re creating an open world for players to live in, explore and ultimately create their own experience.

There are no character levels or unrealistic stats, skills or abilities to learn and new players just joining the game will be on almost the same level playing field as a player that has been playing for a month.

The gameplay is designed to be open world sandbox so that players really have the opportunity to create their own, unique experience. We don’t define any quests that you have to complete in order to obtain items in the game. However, players will be able to create their own quests and missions for other players and then post rewards for completing those missions. We just provide the tools and the players create the experience.”

Beta testing for the game is scheduled to start by the end of the summer with a view to a launch this autumn.
