Top 100 Women in Games: Charu Desodt

Charu Desodt is a senior producer at Microsoft’s Lift London Studio and was recognised as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit in 2014.

Her career to date has been characterised by games that innovate and challenge industry norms.

She independently created the prototype that evolved into the hit PS2 and PS3 series SingStar; the game won a BAFTA Award for Originality and was listed as one of the Top 30 British games ever produced in June 2014.

Post-SingStar, she led a team on Wonderbook: Book of Spells, the BAFTA-nominated augmented-reality game based on original stories by J.K. Rowling.

Charu is active and passionate about driving innovation in games development, sharing her experiences at creative industry and engineering events such as Codess, Little Miss Geek, SohoCreate and The European Women in Games Conference, as well as running creative workshops such as a recent event for women engineers in Bangalore.

Games are at the fore front of combining innovation in technology – devices, services, applications – with intuitive and engaging player experiences,” she says.

As games gain relevance and recognition, I want to connect and collaborate across industries and cultures to explore their potential beyond entertainment.”
