Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones aims to be the ultimate pirate game

If you thought Rare’s Sea of Thieves was the only team-based pirate game on the horizon, then you’re in for a real treat. Announced at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference, Skull and Bones is the latest title from its Singapore studio, building on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s naval combat to create the ultimate pirate game.

A tactical action game at its heart, Skull and Bones will require players to harness the power of the wind and waves to sail towards victory. Players will be able to compete with other galleons on the high sea, and the aim is to become the most notorious pirate around.

Set in 1712 across the Indian Ocean, the game takes place in a shared, systemic world, says Ubisoft, and players will even be able to form gangs of pirates with their friends. There will also be a 5v5 pvp mode called Loot Hunt, where players wage epic sea battles in order to escape with the most loot.

You’ll also be pleased to hear that sea shanties will be making a welcome comeback, too.

The game isn’t due to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC until Fall 2018, but players can sign up now for live phases in the beta across all platforms right now. To see the game in action, have a look at the gameplay trailer below:
