Ubisoft’s weird and wonderful line-up

Some of the most unusual products ever to come from a third-party publisher were announced during Ubisoft’s E3 press conference.

Its core titles were showcased alongside a highly experimental line-up of new peripherals, virtual platforms and products that integrate the console into real world experiences.

Battle Tag, for example, is a new laser tag game that allows players to battle it out with real-life sensor harnesses, laser guns and ammo refill packs. A home console is then used to establish teams, sync the sensors and tally the scores.

While Ubisoft didn’t announce which platform this would appear on or pricing details for the peripherals, it did pledge to bring Battle Tag to retail by the autumn.

Meanwhile, Innergy is a new self-improvement game for PC and Mac that utilises the company’s new Innergy Sensor – a biofeedback tool (pictured) that measures the user’s heart rate and more, akin to Nintendo’s Vitality Sensor.

Innergy guides consumers through a number of breathing exercises designed to counteract stress. It is due for release in early 2011.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also announced ManiaPlanet, a user-generated PC gaming arena that allows players to switch seamlessly between genres across Nadeo’s popular Mania franchises.

The system will launch with TrackMania 2 and will later incorporate ShooterMania and QuestMania. It will allow users to create virtual worlds.

The publisher also continues to push its music portfolio with Just Dance 2 announced during the Nintendo conference and the first details for Michael Jackson: The Game.
