UFC to run at 30fps on next-gen, dev says 60fps "not hugely beneficial"

EA Canada has confirmed that next year’s Xbox One and PS4 release UFC will not run at 60 frames per second.

Instead, the game will run at 30fps – although it will output at 1080p on both consoles.

Interestingly, EA Canada creative director Brian Hayes told GamingBolt that he doesn’t think 60fps would be of any particular benefit in his game.

The game sim is running at 60fps, but rendering at 30fps with motion blur,” he stated.

From prior experience working on Fight Night Round 4 and Fight Night Champion, which rendered at 60fps and 30fps respectively, we discovered that 60fps didn’t have a hugely beneficial impact on gameplay, but motion blur had an enormous impact on visual quality.

In fact, when we focus tested the two, the majority of people preferred the 30fps experience with motion blur. So, as opposed to arbitrarily jumping back to 60fps for little discernible benefit, we decided to put those resources towards improving the visual presentation of the game in other ways.”
