UK net porn filter could tamper League of Legends patching

David Cameron’s brave new world of socially responsible internetting could interfere with League of Legends.

Kotaku reports that the game’s patching program attempts to access two URLs – specifically VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj and XerathMageChainsExtended.luaobj – that the filter is blocking by default due to the inclusion of the word ‘sex’.

Whether a user will be affected or not will depend on their ISP’s implementation of the new filters.

New broadband customers of the country’s biggest networks will have the filter turned on by default and will have to contact their provider to have it deactivated. Existing customers may or may not see the filter be applied depending on individual company policy.

Even for those with an active filter there will likely be workarounds made available but expect this to be a sign of things to come.
