UK video games wholesaler steps into digital publishing with Bad Taste Bears game

Video games distributor Clubit is attempting to turn itself into a games publisher with a Bad Taste Bears game.

The title, based on the popular adult toy brand, is currently on Kickstarter and is set for release on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Should it miss its Kickstarter total of 50,000 (and it’s currently not looking great), the firm says it will find other ways to fund the money.

I fell in love with the Bad Taste Bears when I first saw them 15 years ago and my immediate thoughts were that this could become a great game franchise,” said Tas Hadjisavva from Clubit.

The adult yet cheeky humour is something that makes these figurines stand out and be noticed. There are over 400 different characters that currently exist, many of which are crying out to become stars in their own video game. I believe that with all of the recent innovations in mobile gaming the time is now right to make this a reality.

Most franchises bring out a game and then the merchandise follows. With the Bad Taste Bears we have the reverse. It is a well-established brand that exists in the form of collectable figurines but needs to be brought to life and what better medium to do this than a mobile video game.”

He added: It has been a natural progression for us to move into the digital sphere. We have been involved with the distribution of video games since the Megadrive and Super Nintendo days and more recently this has expanded to include an increasing interest in the development of video games . We also have vast experience of the collectables market such as Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon and Bad Taste Bears. From the beginning it was obvious to me that Bad Taste Bears was going to be a successful long term collectable brand with a massive potential.

We have worked closely with the Bad Taste Bears team for many years now and have an in depth understanding of the brand and its market and we are now ready to take it digital.”
